ADULT BEGINNING GUITAR I SYLLABUS
Teacher: Kenneth E. Hall
Classroom: Piney Branch Orchestra Room

Course Description
Adult Guitar I is designed to expose to and develop students in basic guitar techniques
and methods. This course endeavors to provide a broad spectrum of basic skill
development as well as academic/historical knowledge of guitar techniques and music
in general.

Methods of Instruction
Basic concepts and skills will be addressed in a classroom setting with individual
instruction being offered on a revolving basis. Most instruction will endeavor to meet the
student based on their present level of understanding. While the use of guitar tablature
will be allowed as an instructional aid, all students will be expected to learn standard
music notation.

Methods of Assessment
All students will have minimum competencies that will serve as benchmarks to their
development. Students will be assessed via a portfolio of performance. These
assessments will be in applied formats. Most assessments may be offered numerous
times until the minimum competency is achieved. All students will be expected to
develop and progress. In addition to the above competencies, each student will receive
a weekly class work overview assessment. All students will be expected to practice
regularly. Failure to do so will result in an inability to progress and advance to the next
level.

Materials
Students will need a fully functional acoustic guitar (either nylon or steel string) for use
in class. Students will be expected to bring note taking materials to class each day
Sheet music, worksheets, and other materials will be provided by the instructor as
the semester progresses. Students will be expected to keep these materials, as well as
class notes, in an organized fashion. We will be going back and utilizing these materials
and students will need them neat, maintained, and handy. Besides a guitar at home,
students will need an electronic tuner, a metronome and a music stand. Students will
be expected to provide their own consumables such as strings and picks.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I've enjoyed working with Semaj (Piano Instructor)!  He's allowed me to work at my own pace and encouraged me with pieces that I thought were too difficult to tackle"   (Adult Student 2021-2022)
